Missing Tuesday - Zebb Quinn

Sometimes when someone disappears, the police have plenty of clues, but the clues don’t make sense or they point in different directions. Such is the case in the very strange disappearance of Zebb Quinn.

Zebb Wayne Quinn disappeared on January 2, 2000, from Asheville, NC. He was employed at the Walmart store on Hendersonville Road and was at work on January 2. He left work at 9 p.m. and met his friend Robert Jason Owens. The two young men were going to look at a Mitsubishi Eclipse that Zebb was interested in buying. On their way, they stopped for sodas at a Citgo gas station on Hendersonville Road not far from the Walmart, and video footage from the store shows the pair entering the store around 9:15 p.m. The same footage show their cars pulling away from the station’s parking area a few minutes later, heading toward Long Shoals Road.

Around 9:30 p.m., Zebb flashed his lights at Owens and the two cars pulled over to the side of the road. He told Owens that he had received a page and needed to make a phone call right away. Law enforcement later confirmed that the page had come from Zebb’s aunt’s telephone. He drove off, then returned about ten minutes later and accidentally rear-ended Owens’ pick-up truck. Zebb told Robert that something had come up and he couldn’t look at the Mitsubishi that night, and he drove away. He was never seen again.

Owens was treated for broken ribs and a head injury that he claimed were from another automobile accident that occurred in the early morning hours of January 3, several hours after he last saw Zebb. Police were suspicious about Owens being involved in two accidents just a few hours apart, particularly since the second accident where he claimed he was injured was never reported to police.

On January 4, someone claiming to be Zebb called the Walmart to say that he would not be coming to work that day. After the call ended, Zebb’s supervisor hit *69 to see where the call had come from, and it turned out that the call had been made from the local Volvo automobile manufacturing plant. Robert Owens was employed at the plant, so police immediately were suspicious that he had made the call. When questioned, Owens admitted making the call, at Zebb’s request. After giving police his initial statement, Owens refused to cooperate with police further.

Zebb’s blue Mazda Protégé was found abandoned in the parking lot of a local restaurant, The Little Pigs Barbecue, on January 16, two weeks after his disappearance. The parking lot is across from Mission St. Joseph’s Hospital where Zebb’s mother, sister and grandmother all worked as nurses. A black Labrador Retriever puppy approximately 3 months old was found in the car. The dog didn’t belong to Zebb and police believe that the car was left in that location deliberately with the puppy inside so that it would be noticed right away. Police checked with local pet stores, dog breeders, and animal shelters but were unable to locate the source of the puppy. One of the investigating officers ended up adopting the puppy.

In addition to the dog, a plastic hotel key card, drink bottles, and a jacket that didn’t belong to Zebb were also found in the car, along with some strands of hair that were inconsistent with Zebb’s hair. A pair of lips and two exclamation points had been drawn on the rear window with lipstick. There was no sign of Zebb at the scene and no one had any idea who had left the car there. The hotel key card had no name on it, and none of the local hotels and motels were able to identify the card.

Police now suspect foul play in Zebb’s disappearance and are investigating the case as a homicide, and believe that more than one person is involved. In 2009, they collected hair, saliva and fingerprint from a female friend of Zebb’s, although they stress she is not a suspect in his disappearance. Zebb had told his family that the woman (identified as Misty Taylor) was in an abusive relationship, and that he himself had been threatened by her boyfriend.

Zebb’s aunt is also a mysterious figure. She claimed that she wasn’t at home at the time Zebb received the page, and she had witnesses to back her up. The witnesses were Misty Taylor’s family, who the aunt was friendly with and had gone to their house to discuss a business plan – apparently they were planning to start a business together.

There has been considerable speculation that more than one person was responsible for Zebb’s disappearance, and that Misty’s boyfriend was involved. Maybe the page that Zebb received was from Misty, asking him to meet her at a local motel and that the two spent the night together and were later discovered by Misty’s boyfriend. It is also possible that Misty’s boyfriend lured Zebb somewhere by using his aunt’s phone at a time when he knew she wasn’t at home. Robert Owens was arrested in 2007 following a high speed chase. He still refuses to talk to the police about Zebb. Also, 9 p.m. at night seems an odd time for two young men to go look at a car. Obviously a number of people know more about Zebb’s disappearance than they are admitting.

Zebb Quinn in his ROTC uniform

Zebb Quinn is 5’9” tall and weighs around 165 lbs. He has brown hair that he wears in a neat short haircut, and blue-gray eyes. He wears contact lenses. He has scars between the middle and ring fingers on both hands. He has a learning or organizational disability and his family describes him as being not street-smart. He is close to his family and would never have left without warning or contacting them. At the time of his disappearance, Zebb was 18 years old – today he would be 30 years old. He was wearing jeans, a plaid button-down shirt, and a gold chain. He didn’t take money, clothing, or any other items that he would need if he was leaving for a long period of time.

If you have any information about Zebb’s disappearance, please contact the Asheville Police Department at 828/252-1110.

    4. I believe that Robert and Misty and Misty's boyfriend murdered Quinn. Parts of Zebb's friend's story doesn't make sense about the accident outside of the Waffle House making him a couple of hours late for work. I almost wonder if Zebb got beaten by Misty's boy friend and he was the one that ended up with broken ribs. I feel that Zebb's friend knows a lot more than he's telling the Police. .

  3. Misty taylor, the boyfriend and the aunt did this. The boyfriend used the aunt to lure poor zebb to his death with the page. I do feel this is fairly obvious, at least on the surface. The lips were drawn by a female. The dog in the car is a complete mystery. I wonder if that was supposed to symbolize something, or what. Could it have been a mistake? Seems far too risky. But misty taylor the boyfriend and his aunt did this!!!

  4. The card on the TV program was white with black writing. You are probably right, Anonymous, but that Robert has to be involved. If Misty, etc. killed Zebb that night or the next day, how could Robert have been instructed to call him in sick days later. I wonder if the police checked Robert's phone records to see if he really did get a call from Zebb to call him in sick? And where it came from. They didn't seem to use cell phones; any of them. And when Robert got sent to prison later, his attorney told him not to discuss the Zebb matter. They all look suspect!

  5. When they found Zebb's car, did it have damage from him supposedly bumping Jason? Jason had pretty severe injuries from a minor bumper tap. Maybe Jason lured Zebb to check out the Eclipse so he did not go straight home. Maybe Jason followed him after the page and Zebb realized he had been set up and hit Jason's car trying to escape. Did the police check both cars . . . and Wesley's, for damage and paint transfer????? Such a convoluted set of events! So sad for that family to live with.

  6. Either a number of results aren't being published or this case isn't being investigated thoroughly. I agree with the previous author1. What about paint transfer, 2. Did they verify that the call was made to Robert to ask him to call in for Zebb3. Why wasn't the motel key or the dog published in the local paper for identification purposes.

  7. I think misty's boyfriend utilized the aunt's phone, with or without her knowledge. After finding out Misty and Zebb were speaking, assuming the worst or after Misty spinning the story to make it seem as though Zebb had hurt her or was harrassing her, he, with or without the help of someone along with Misty, maybe initially intended to scare Zebb or maybe had the intent to hurt or kill from the door. Whatever the initial intent, I think the amount of time between all of these events and present day with no developments in the case and even more so, with the remaining absence of Zebb, speaks for itself. I think the car was left on purpose in the place it was, not only because of the hospital, but because of the name itself. I think the lips spoke to that as well and as for the things found inside, I think the trash involved knew detectives were too close on the trail and they needed to try to throw them off. I think in some way, Jason and Wesley are in fact connected, if not directly - indirectly. The knowledge that Zebb was looking to buy a new car was just a really great coincedence and a way to keep him from going directly home.I think the witnesses who were able to provide the description of the driver of his car which resembles Misty is no mistake on the part of the witnesses or the composite artist. It makes me sick that all of those involved have been able to go on with their lives and have not come forward. I am curious of the status of Misty's relationship status with Wesley now. Depending on how everything came about, whether she lied to make it appear as though Zebb was in some way violating her or if Wesley didn't need that extra push, obviously they are both in the wrong regardless. I am just curious if their relationship has deteriorated over the years, if given the right circumstances, if one would turn on the other. I think you would have to be a nut to not see the enormous cloud of suspicion over them and for good reason.. all the police need is a thread to begin unraveling the entire thing. It truly is such a terrible scenario and for his family to have to live in that area with the inklings of such a low balled set up of such a good person is just beyond comprehension for me. I think I'd end up in jail myself if nothing else being his mom. I realize my thoughts within this post are probably not put together in a very cohesive way, but I watched this episode of Disappeared just now for the nth time and everytime I see it it makes me so frustrated with the whole situation and this time it all came flowing out once I found this article.

  8. Did police check to see if there really was an Eclipse for sale? If not, that would show that this was a set up. I feel for this mans family. It sounds like a bunch of trashy type people were involved in this.......some aunt!!!! If she was involved I hope she rots in hell. This will eventually be solved and all the people who think they got away with this will be sadly mistaken as they sit behind prison bars. I also wonder if there could have been a possible inheritance in this mans future that this aunt was eyeing. He had a disability so maybe the aunt's mother was going to leave him most of her estate when she passed to make sure he was taken care of and aunty decided to get him out of the picture and this was a good way of getting away with it by having some other dumb#*#* do it. I hope this case was investigated fully.

I love how people are fooled by incompetent police work and think that all leads were "fully vetted" when it is more than obvious they were not.

  12. get a life flog above me.
the disappeared episode is misleading in that it says the boyfriend is the only one with any motive.
I would have thought a cashed up teenager trying to buy a car is a legitimate target for robbery.
I would say none of the girl, boyfriend, friend or aunt's bank account rose suddenly cos this would have come out. unless they split the money but conspiring to murder for just a couple of thousand each is ridiculous and too elaborate for a bunch of white trash. I'd say they all know something about the murder, which was probably a robbery that went bad but there will never be conclusive evidence to convict any one person. I'm sorry for the family's loss if they are reading this post.

  13. Truly amazing disappearance of a person, you couldn't script the events that leads to this chaps disappearance. I can't help but feel this case should be solved, the suspects are there! It doesn't seem like enough pressure was applied to the suspects. The aunt hightailed out of town; sign of guilt? IMO: There's 3 possibilities: 1) Zebb's affair with Misty was interfering with his estranged aunts business plan with Misty's boyfriends family, perhaps they've put pressure on his aunt to get Zebb to back off from Misty and well, the text from the aunt to Zebb which made him frantic according to Jason (his "friend") sounds like she has told him something to lure him somewhere and whatever happened after that. It might explain the puppy, the aunt left town, did she recently get a puppy and just place it in the car and leave town? I think probably though the puppy has no relevance, just to throw the police 2) It was indeed Jason who killed Zebb, motive being Zebb had a lump sum of cash to buy a new car, it might explain Jason's injuries, Zebb tried to fight him off (Zebb was in some kind of Military Academy, I suspect he was no mug physically) Jason says it was a car accident, but where's this person he hit? and also he said Zebb crashed into the back of his car but when Zebb's car was found abandoned there was no accident damage on his car, so it makes Jason a liar and questions the rest of his statement 3) Misty, the girl he loved, and I'm sure she must have had a lot affection for him too for her to cheat on her boyfriend whom she had a child with, but if she was involved: A couple claim to have seen Misty driving Zebb's car, it was definitely his car as they wrote down partial part of the plate and it matched to Zebb's car. To me, it would seem Zebb went to a Hotel perhaps originally on his own or agreed to meet Misty there or invited her over, but the boyfriend got noise of this and then well, Zebb met his fate. It might explain the lipstick on the car window, one last kiss from Misty. Well, those are my theories.

I will start by saying I am really sorry to both his mom & sister..I truly believe Zepp is no longer with us..and if the investigators would keep on top of those 2 women one of them will crack, and that one will be Misty, as to the Aunt as someone mentioned before, she is a good candidate for getting rid of her own flesh, why? the evil of all things MONEY!! she was going into business with relatives of one of the suspect, Hey they could of been putting up a good chunk of money and Zepp was truly in her way..Jason was just there to take him on a goose chase of a car..Slammed on his brakes Zepp hit Jason's car and who ever was behind Zepp that is where the story begins..took Zepp putting him in the 3rd car and someone else drove Zepp's car..which later a couple made a Sketch who really looks like Misty I say they are all involved, Misty (friend), the boyfriend (jealous) Jason (paid off with the Money Zepp had) the Aunt (greed - Money - business)regardless of what ever the motive was he was someone child, grandchild, brother, nephew
and these are my comment who ever had anything to do young or old this could happen to one of yours!!!

  17. It just amazes me that so many people who have only the tv show to work with can see so clearly just what has happened to Zebb yet the police have yet to make an arrest in this case.
So many lame explanations from each of the suspects yet no mention of the follow up from the police. What are they not mentioning about the crime?

Why is Zebb's dad only mentioned once in the story? Even if the split between he and Zebb's mom was not a amicable one you would still like to believe that he would care about the welfare of his son and what had happened to him and if not then add him to the lists of suspects. Seems he would be the best person to get the truth out of his sister. (Zebb's aunt)

I believe the theories listed above are really close to what happened to Zebb.
My theory would be as follows:

Jason (the co worker at Walmart) was a friend of Wes's (Misty's boyfriend) and was asked to lure Zebb out somewhere that there would be less chance of them being spotted doing something to him. Thus the car lot story.
Somewhere along the way Zebb started getting suspicious about where they were actually going. (note that when they stopped at the store that the 2 didn't enter or leave together but 1 after the other, who does that?)

The plan could have been for Jebb's aunt to page him while they were on route to the "car dealership" so that Jebb would flash his lights to let Jason know he had to get to a phone (this could have even been when they were seen at the store together as times were not told in the tv show) to check his page.
Don't know who Jebb might have called as you would think they would have saw an incoming phone call to his aunt or Misty when they checked their phone records.

After continuing on from the store I believe that Jason just slammed on the brakes while Jebb was right behind him causing Jebb to rear end him and that Wes and Misty (or Wes and another person) were right behind Jebb at the time.
I do believe that a struggle happened at that point between Jebb, Jason and perhaps Wes and that Jebb was over powered and even possibly killed then and placed in the back of Jason's truck (that is why no evidence of blood or anything in Jebb's car).
There had to be someone with Wes in this scenario as someone had to drive Jebb's car away from the scene.

They disposed of Jebb's body and then had Jason make the call to Walmart and even had Misty drive Jebb's car around to make it seem like Jebb was still alive and to further throw off the police as to what had happened to Jebb and the actual time of his demise or the plan could have been to make people believe that Jebb had simply just took off.
They just didn't take into account that the manager at Walmart would know it wasn't Jebb making the call or tracing it to Jason. Hard to say as they may have just simply needed more time to dispose of the body. Just way too many facts not shown in the tv show to say for sure.

I also think that the puppy was there for no other purpose than to make the car even more apt to be found as they left the headlights on (according to the tv show) and also left items such as the hotel door key, water bottles and jacket to just further throw off the police. Thus why none of the items had any of either Jason's, Wes's or Misty's DNA on them. (guessing on that one since it was not mentioned and no arrests were made after they did the DNA profile on the items)
Also was a line up done with Misty in it to see if the person who saw her driving the car could positively identify her?

Judging from the tv show I am amazed that there has been no arrests in this case and that would either mean that those investigating this case are just totally inept or that they purposely held back quite a bit of information on the tv show in order to help them catch those responsible.

I do truly feel for Jebb's mom and sister and can only imagine what they have been going through over the past decade.

  19. Hi, I do not know Zebb or anyone in that area but upon hearing the story on tv and doing a bit of research on this case, something is really puzzling me. Has anyone checked to see if any of the main suspects was a dog breeder? Just my theory and take on this case but I would presume the lips on the back of the car to be a portrayal of love or birth. There was a puppy in the car right? A female? Pure bred? A female pure bred is the most fought over, as in the case of having a litter of 8 or 9 puppy's with only one being a female. Am I the only one to see this as just a bit too straightforward as far as evidence? Might be too late now but my theory is the person or persons involved are in some way involved in the breeding business and Zebb somehow got involved. Also, has anyone thought maybe the hotel card was an old one and no longer in use? Maybe the suspect worked at one? Or the person being framed is a dog breeder who worked at a hotel and has blonde hair. I strongly believe all the unhidden and out there evidence is to pin someone else. How cruel can someone be to leave a puppy alone in the car???? Find them and you will probably find the killer(s). He/she or they will get caught. It's just a matter of time! I apologize for the rambling! This really ticks me off. I have some other theory's on this but I will keep those to myself. GOD BLESS YOU AND YOUR FAMILY ZEBB QUINN!!!

    1. No, the puppy was NOT "pure bred"; he was a black lab mix. Police unsuccessfully looked for the origin of the puppy, and none of the suspects (as of yet) was discovered to have anything to do with dog breeding. There is nothing inherently illegal about it, so Zebb and the others would have no reason to hide something like that. The puppy was likely to get the car discovered sooner and to throw police off. Possibly, the killer(s)' egotistical "signature" of sort as well. I hope there's a strong break in the case soon.

  20. I've seen every episode of Disappeared and have been fascinated by disappearances for a long time. Despite all the stories I've seen, this is one of the most puzzling I have ever heard of. The only conclusion I can come to is that Owens, Zebb's aunt, Misty, and her boyfriend all got together to do away with Zebb, which is the most absurd thing I have ever heard! So that doesn't help explain much.

I did read somewhere else that Zebb had been threatened by Misty's boyfriend and had told a co-worked that he was afraid. That was not mentioned in Disappeared. I think that it is an important piece of information as it does seem to point to the boyfriend as a more likely suspect.

But what about the part of seeing a girl driving Zebb's car? A girl who matched the description of Misty? And Owens making the call for Zebb? And Zebb's aunt denying that the call came from her house and then later admitting it? It really sounds like they are all in on it. And it's so bizarre that I can't see how that could have ever happened.

It seems to me that there are many other unsolved cold cases in the Asheville area. Girls disappearing, bodies found and you never hear of a resolution, but hell it took the feds 5 years to find Eric Rudolph. There is an awful lot of wooded land out there to disappear in. Right in my backyard there are areas of bramble that I have never looked at, not in 20 years, and I live very close to the main drag. I think Misty must be a main character in this, but not without help. She couldnt dispose of a body that big on her own. If she had the car, she knows what happened. Girls draw kisses, not guys. 23. The entire interior of the Mazda Protege that belonged to Zebb should have been gone over with a fine toothed comb to collect evidence: hairs, fibers, fingerprints, etc. DNA from both male "persons of interest" should have been collected and compared to anything found in that car. There was ample reason to suspect both Robert Jason Owens and Wesley (Misty Taylor's boyfriend) and in addition to DNA tests, those two should also have been given polygraph tests. Zebb's aunt, Ina Oostich, also knew more than she was telling, and even lied to the police about a break-in. This whole case is fishy, and I can't understand why the authorities did not get down and dirty with the many people who gave every appearance of being involved in Zebb's disappearance.

  28. Some are saying things like "I can't believe the police haven't charged anyone". First I say that instinct is correct, to wonder and demand they do something. I'm from Louisiana and there was a young woman named Kristi Gwen O'Pry who went missing a long time ago, in the 80s. The facts that were published would lead anyone and everyone that one specific person was responsible yet for 20 years he eluded arrest and walked about a free man. I wrote the Shreveport Police department directly one time, the detective in charge of the investigation and I called them out, asked "why on Earth haven't you been able to charge this guy with anything at all? He refused a polygraph, etc...obviously he did it, she was last seen with him in his truck and he was known to be a douche". The detective responded telling me, "I know how you feel, it is just as frustrating to us that we do not have enough evidence to arrest him, and without that we can't just arrest him for anything..." he went on to say have patience and said that they were actually doing everything they could. The dude finally fucked up again and got caught, another murder. This time he confessed to Kristi's disappearance and murder. My point is, the police probably really are doing all they can but just can't arrest a person on a hunch or just because they believe he did it. Of course I am not sure if you have Barney Fife running the Police up there. For the record I agree, clearly the Aunt, Owens, Misty and her boyfriend - or Owens himself, or a combination of them all, contributed to Zebb's disappearance. It's sad, but if anyone knows something specific about the boyfriend (someone mentioned he is a rapist) report it to the police WITH THE FACTS YOU HAVE and they will take care of it. I hope they get caught, the aunt first.

All three of these evil twats need to be dragged to prison with the "keycard" thrown out. These Doo Dah dumb ass cops and their sleeve size iqs also need to lite more fire under the suspects asses in this case. I mean these things are pretty simple...did they have the aunt and Misty draw lips on a sheet of paper so they could compare it to the ones drawn on the car??? Circumstantial evidence like that can be the difference between a guilty or not guilty verdict for a jury.

    1. If either one DID draw those lips, do you really think they'd draw them how they typically would have drawn them? A guilty person would make sure they drew the lips on that paper totally differently than they ever would draw them so they purposefully DON'T look like the ones on the car.

    2. I agree with Anonymous 7/15: They would never draw them as they had done on the windshield. Even if they had, that would prove nothing since generically drawn lips look alike. That's like comparing "stick man" drawings. It would make more sense, when they were questioned, to have taken lipstick samples from ones in their purses (or at home if a warrant was obtained). If there was a formulation match - which is nearly as reliable as DNA - you'd potentially have probable cause to further search their homes or officially deem them a POI.

    3. I think the whole thing is a message that all Zebb had for her(Misty) was really PUPPY LOVE. and that it might have been done with intentions to tell Zebb to stay away,IDK but that's what I get from the lips and puppy .(if it was meant to send a message)

  32. 1st of all why hasn't anyone tried to triangulate the pager's signal, 2nd of all were they no polygraph tests given to the 4 pieces of shit, 3 of which are obviously not giving all the information up they know. and last of which did no 1 check on the car (Eclipse) that Owens & Zebb were going to look at to see if they were one there...?!?! And being unable to find out where the motel key card came from screams of negligance, or incompidence or perhaps both! Owens is in on it cuz he was last with him & made the false call pretending to be Zebb after he was last seen & admitted to be doing so (keep in mind this was after Zebb was missing; on the nxt day to be exact), This Misty bitch was making her 'friendship' with Zebb look to investagators far less then what it was, & a witness'es sketch of Zebb's car being driven to its final location was Very Very close to her likeness. Her bf had All the motive, & the aunt is pal's with em & has changed her story about her house co-inceadently being broken into at the time she was "gone" and a 'call was made to Zebb's pager, the last page he'd gotten before he went missing. I say at least arrest em or as many as possible on different charges if possible, and then reinterview them, bluff them that someone else has caved in and told on the other, and watch the truth slowly come out. These pieces of shit need to tell who done the actual killing and where they put Zebb's body because his family needs closure in reguard to his obvious death.

  33. There is no web e-mail for this, is there a different list, I also looked on NAMUS.
I think the hotel key is from out of town, and may not have even been used by Zeb but perhaps had no fingerprints on it ? (I think it was used by Zeb though to meet Misty)

I mean these states border NC. Assuming his body as been found and it's not out there buried some where in NC? IDK I think that it's just a matter of finding a body and then offering out plea deals(I hope not), or tracking people down and undoing alibis, which can still happen even almost 15 yrs later.

  35. At least as being a liar, bc I think that those injuries came from him and someone (maybe Zebb) getting into a fight, not a car accident. That being said I think it's also a case of your lawyer not telling you to talk bc despite that Page he is as far as authorities know the last one to see him alive, and that alone holds a lot of suspicion, and I say that bc a sketch of Misty driving the car doesn't exonerate his involvement, it just turns into a 2-3 person involvement in Zebb's dissapearance.

  36. Hi fellow americans, I am from the UK and only just watched this case on disappeared,, what a lovely lad and I am sadly inclined to agree Misty and her boyfriend and the Aunt are most definitely involved in this.. Surely if the police really pushed and pressured these people someone would crack in the end, this has to be solved for the family more than anything, I cannot imagine going through this trauma for so long. Did the police really push their investigations to the limit or did they give up to easily. every crime has evidence and somewhere there is a clue. I wish you all well and pray this young man is found. closure is needed xxxx

  37. Obviously Owen was jealous of Misty, and was deeply in love with Quinn. It was a deed of love and passion. The puppy and the kiss are truly of an effeminate nature, and would be a final kiss to Quinn, and a puppy to replace the kind, gentle nature back into the hearts of those who would miss him.
Misty confided in Quinn, yes, but were they in a secret relationship? I don't think so.

    All aspects point to Owen.
    -Last to see Quinn.
-Broken Rib etc (Fight with Quinn).
-Used the spare time to break into Quinn's aunty's house.
-Made calls on behalf of Quinn.
-Used a hotel room as the place to confront Quinn on his true feelings and lure Quinn into homosexual relations.
-Knew where Quinn's mother worked, and place the car nearby.

Quinn is probably buried somewhere. Not dumped, as Owen would have taken more care for him.

  38. I'm surprised everyone is putting so much meaning into the puppy and the lips. A guilty person in this scenario wouldn't try to be poetic like a theme serial killer on a tv show. I am wondering if the puppy was something like a gift to Misty from Zebb, that was just ditched with the car once Wesley found out about it. Obviously it's improbable for her to be able to take care of a puppy and a kid and keep it a secret from her boyfriend, but it's a lot more probable than the possible killer going out of their way to buy/adopt a dog and leave it as additional evidence. Obviously they left the car somewhere noticeable on purpose but the dog seems excessive and doesn't send any clear message. "Puppy love" as I keep hearing is too much of a stretch for me. Also, were the lips drawn before or after the car was parked? I can't imagine someone driving a stolen car around with exclamation points drawn on it.

    1. Well Misty was seen driving the car.. You are right about all the symbol stuff does seem a bit too advanced for these people. Until you realize that they too this day have gotten away with murder so they can't be too dumb. The car itself had it's lights left on so couldn't have been their too long.. So someone wanted it to be found so leaving all that stuff behind seems on purpose and the car was found how long after he vanished? So chances are Zeb didn't even see or know about any puppy

  39. A point... The headlights on, may make it appear the car has someone waiting for someone/picking them up - so it would be ignored by most. I don't know what the hours are there. It could have been drawn right after the person driving left the vehicle.

The car sale is a whole other matter, which we may never find out. If there were indeed a car for sale, they wouldn't publish that for all to see, but I wonder who the seller was.

    3. IMO, all the stuff left in that car, were just diversions.

    4. Anyone looked into the the life insurance policies on ALL of the family?

    1. I am sure that stuff was looked into but hard to find out unless you are an actual detective on the case. Would also like to know more about this construction place that guy worked for... Any recently cemented areas or what not. The stuff in the car could have been diversions, hard to really know for sure though

  42. I feel this will be solved soon. I agree, the lips/dog are red herrings, and probably not even meant to throw off police. These bumpkins just aren't that smart. Another to consider, much of the lead up to these events were based on Owens - who clearly is a liar and involved. So you have to almost discount everything he's framed up. Looking at Taylor's fb page, what I see is a narcissist who probably wanted her lover (s) to prove their love by killing. With Zebb's 'slowness', Misty clearly never really liked her, just liked the attention. At some point, a think a very cruel 'joke' turned deadly. I think the Taylor mother and Aunt may have a strong sense to what happened, but rationalize not talking - looking at the mother's fb, you almost see the guilt she's carrying. The gravity is weighing someone down, it won't be long.

  43. Anonymous, I hope you are correct. I just heard about this case and it is so sad. If that were my child I would be harassing the police all the time to make an arrest. I think it was Misty, her boyfriend and the aunt.

  45. I live in NC. I hurt for those parents and family members of missing or murdered children and relatives. I believe I can put a word in to a few good friends I know and trust that work within the police department in my area so they can start looking into this more seriously. Zebb's sister and
Mother do not deserve to suffer and wonder all their lives as to what happened to him. From what I have read and researched, he was a hard working, kind and gentle person that just wanted to live life and become a productive member of society. He only wanted to love and be loved and was family oriented with a positive outlook on life despite his set back of having a disability. To take advantage of such an innocent, well-intended and kind hearted young man is evil and I am personally outraged at the lack of effort that was used to investigate his disappearance! I've read and watched everything I could to get a much better grasp on what happened and it seems to me and the majority of the people who have seen what I have, that this was a completely flawed investigation! I have several LE friends, and two family members in high ranking positions in LE and they are enraged by the police work that was done here (or should I say lack of!). I am personally taking an interest in this case and am going to do everything in my power to help this family so they can have some peace! This is appalling and needs to be looked at by a specialized group of detectives in the homicide and missing persons division. I am praying that the family finds some comfort in knowing that there are people out there like myself and thousands of others that want to offer our support and any help we can to help find Zebb and all responsible for whatever may have happened to him. God speed! Let's get this solved!

  46. I'm from Australia and have just seen this on the discovery channel. I don't believe I've been touched in a appearance like this one. I feel for the police investigators involved and Zebb's family and will pray for closure. MIsty, Robert and her boyfriend need to talk.

  48. The Buncombe County Sheriff’s Office was contacted on March 15, 2015 by family members of Cristie Schoen Codd, 38, and Joseph “JT” Codd, 45, of 87 Hookers Gap Road in Leicester. Deputies subsequently began missing persons’ investigations. That investigation resulted in the arrest of Robert Jason Owens, 36, of 1 Owens Cove Road in Leicester. Owens has been charged with two counts of felony first degree murder, one felony count of breaking or entering, larceny after breaking and entering and free text felony.

  49. This case could have easily been solved using the controversial but highly effective RCMP (Royal Canadian Mounted Police) 'Mr. Big' method. Owens would have confessed for sure. Check out the 48 Hours Mystery episode 'Perfectly Executed' for a classic example on how this technique is brilliant.

  50. Jason Owens is the culprit along with Misty her bf and aunt. Jason Owens is lying , one doesn't have two accidents just like that.
His injuries clearly indicate that things got ugly between him and zebb.
A page from aunt number and the presence of misty and his bf at aunt house at the same time atleast makes Misty and Misty's bf involved .No 1 would just broke into the Aunt house just to text zebb.
Its all seem a well planned conspiracy. Hope justice is delivered soon.
Hope his mother and sister find peace.

  51. They are all likely involved. The motive is simple, rob Zebb. He was looking for a car. The drawing on his Mazda looks "feminine" to me, and Misty was spotted allegedly driving it. Police need to learn how to interrogate better here...

    ReplyDelete
  52. Well it is a fact that Jason Owens is a murderer and he dispouses of bodies by chopping them up and burning them. So I am sure this was Zebb's fate. And I am sure Wes was with him. Mr Owens murdered a pregnant woman and her husband and chopped then up and burned them. If only the police had stopped him when he killed Zebb, he wouldn't have been able to kill the pregnant woman and her husband. He is pure evil!

  53. Just a thought that I really haven't seen anyone post. What if the page that night was from Misty. The boyfriend beat her, she wanted to run. Zebb goes and picks her up (possibly child as well). They drive some distance away and get a motel room. Misty tells him she can't go back there, so they plan to run away together. Now I'm going to assume that Mistys child was with them, depending on the age of the child the puppy may have been a gift for the child from Zebb. Now during this time while they're at the motel it's possible that Wesley Smith finds Robert Owens and Wesley either convinces Robert or beats Robert until he agrees to help. Beating Robert would potentially explain his injuries. Robert lures Zebb into a trap which ultimately leads to his death. Whether Wesley killed Zebb or Robert did it I can't decide but I can say this, they all know something. Misty out of fear of her boyfriend returns home, possibly drops Zebbs car off at the restaurant leaving the puppy behind, and draws the lips as a "goodbye kiss"
